Nia a holistic dance class by Christine Jeffe in New Jersey.

Nia_by_Christine I had never heard about this remarkable exercise program called Nia until Christine Jeffe from New Jersey who volunteers at the complementary cancer center You Can Thrive! broaden my horizons. She is teaching us breast cancer patients how helpful Nia can be to our health. Along with the exercises positive affirmations are being said to remind us that we are getting healthy, are open to receive good things and are ready to move forward with our lovely life. Observing Christine you can figure out that dancing, yoga, gymnastics and some sort of martial arts comes natural to her. “Nia is easier on the joints than Zumba or Aerobics, but just as fun, The Nia Technique is a holistic movement class for every age and everyBODY that not only offers cardiovascular benefits, but also encourages emotional expression to nourish the mind, body and soul. Nia draws from disciplines of the martial arts (Aikido, Tae Kwon Do & Tai Chi), dance arts (Jazz, Duncan & Modern) and healing arts (Yoga, Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais). Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels.” Christine is a Certified White Belt Instructor of Nia. Coming to You Can Thrive! reinforces my physical and emotional confidence that each day is a healthier and better day thanks to Christine who enhanced my life with Nia. Below is a video of Debbie Rosas (the co-creator of Nia) leads Cape Town Nia teachers and Belts in daily Nia demonstration to packed out audiences literally “screaming” with appreciation and enthusiasm for what they saw on stage. This video will give you an idea of what to expect but I seemed to have gotten more from Christine class because she added affirmations to the exercises. This is just a short video about Nia so am not sure if all Nia classes use affirmation. I hope they do!
